By Nabin Subedi, Surkhet, March 5: More than 60 per cent work of the Bheri Babai Diversion Multipurpose Project has been finished. This project was which was begun since fiscal year (FY) 2014/15, has been gradually taking momentum as it has completed 60 per cent physical work and 43 per cent financial expenditure.
This project has target to irrigate 51 thousand hectre agriculture land of Banke and Bardiya along with generation of 46 mega watt (MW) electricity.
12 kilo meter (KM) long tunnel has been constructed with expenditure of Rs 10.56 billion in the first phase construction of the project.
The tunnel construction is finished with the tunnel boring machine of China engineering oversees Pvt Ltd.
The contract agreement was reached among the Chinese company Congdon Construction, Raman JV of Nepal, and the project on fiscal year 2019/20 to finished project with expenditure of Rs 11.54 billion on fiscal year 2022/23.
The pandemic has delayed the project work.
Information officer and senior division engineer Lekh Nath Subedi informed that contractor has been mobilized for hydro mechanical and work related to turbine, switchyard design has been moving forward.
Out of the total estimation of the project of Rs 36.8 billion, expenditure of Rs 15.68 billion has been spent thus far.
