BY OUR CORRESPONDENT, Sinja, Jan. 22: Narakot health post, in Sinja Rural Municipality, Jumla district, has started rapidly expanding its healthcare services. The health post has started laboratory and ultrasound service with the help of local government for the first time.
According to Lalit Rokaya, health coordinator of the rural municipality, the health post began providing the services one month ago with the help of the rural municipality.
The laboratory services have been started after the addition of necessary equipment and manpower. About 1,000 patients have so far received services from the health post.
Laboratory materials were purchased with Rs. 400,000 provided by the rural municipality. The rural municipality has arranged one junior assistant and one technical manpower to run the equipment at the health post.
After having laboratory facilities, the beneficiaries are getting various services including, blood test, HIV test and tuberculosis test among others.
Similarly, the health post has started ultrasound services. Lankaraj Dhital, senior health assistant, informed that the service was started after purchasing necessary equipment with the help of the rural municipality. The ultrasound facility has helped us check the condition of pregnant mothers and their unborn child, said Dhital.
Purna Prasad Dhital, chairman of the rural municipality, said that a variety of tests were being done in the laboratory as well as in the health post.
After arranging the material and manpower for the health post, the service was inaugurated by chairman Dhital and vice-chairman Sitali Rokaya. Recently, priority has been given to the improvement of health institutions.
The start of ultrasound service has elated the service recipients. Pavitra Adhikari, a pregnant woman, expressed her happiness that she got service and was able to see the movement of her baby inside her womb. Service seekers like her return home after checking and thanking the health workers.
Health coordinator Rokaya said that the local government has taken initiatives to expand the area as there is a shortage of buildings for the health posts.
What’s more, vaccination centre has also been operating effectively at the health post. The health post said that since the vaccination center serves as an assisting cold chain, it keeps the vaccines safe and works even when the vaccine is not dispatched from the district.
