Kathmandu, Jan 9: The incumbent government has taken up the intiaitive to develop a green economy so as to protect environment and to reduce the risks emanating from climate change.
In the newly launched Common Minimum Programme and policy programmes of the incumbent government, the government committed to building a network of stakeholder countries to sensitize them about the risks from climate change to the least developed countries and the Himalayan nations.
To further internationalize the climate change agenda and to enhance advocacies on climate action, the issue would be prominently featured in the 'Sagarmatha Dialogue'.
The incumbent government, in its Common Minimum Programme, prioritized prompt rescue people from the event of blizzard, cold wave, flood, landslide, inundation, fire and lightning among others natural disasters and post-disaster relief and rehabilitation operation.
Early warning system would be made further effective and forest area would be utilized for development of industries, factories bearing in mind that the environment would be affected adversely.
Furthermore, the government aims to make the achievements in the field of gender equality, inclusiveness, equality and women's meaningful participation more sustainable, result-oriented and meaningful.
A record about the contributions made by Nepali women in history would be properly managed. Special programme would be launched to bring into effect women's rights in regard to education, health, employment and social security as enshrined in the constitution.
The government would make efforts to end human trafficking, rape, bonded labour, caste-based discrimination, narcotic drug abuse, Chhaupadi, dowry system among other harmful practices and exploitation in all forms and manifestations.
Appropriate arrangement would be put in place for the courts to dispense justice at the earliest in the case related to rape. The ordinance introduced by the erstwhile government would be enforced as an Act to bring to book the culprits of acid attack incidents and to deliver justice to the survivors.
Furthermore, development committees would be formed for advancement of the disadvantaged groups, Badi communities, marginalized communities and sexual minorities, among others.(RSS)
