By Dharbendra Jha,Dhanusha, Dec. 22: Chief Minister of Madhes Province Lalbabu Raut said that his government spent the last five years working for the implementation of the constitution and federalism.
Speaking at a press conference organised at his official residence Madhes Bhawan on Wednesday, he said that the first provincial government of Madhes enacted 55 laws, including the Provincial Police Act, and developed various mechanisms to ensure the successful implementation of the constitution and federalism.
He stressed that the province focused on claiming its rights guaranteed by the Constitution of Nepal and moved the Supreme Court also for the same.Raut held the conference to inform journalists about the works he and his cabinet performed in their five-year tenure.
“Madhes is also the only province that brought three universities – Madhesh Institute of Health Sciences, Madhesh Agriculture University and Madhesh University – into operation,” Raut said, adding that this showed the government’s commitment to education.
“We have also worked for women empowerment and, in addition to managing a 50 per cent reservation for women in all sectors, have introduced schemes like daughter insurance, cycle distribution to female students and free Public Service Commission preparation classes for women applying for government jobs.”
Because of his work, he said that the coming government would not have to deal with the lack of laws and infrastructure he had to when he assumed the office in 2017. Raut further claimed that his government’s Dalit Empowerment Act would protect Dalits and oppressed communities from discrimination and establish their rights.
He said that these tasks were part of the provincial government’s larger campaign to bring about positive changes in Madhes’s society. Raut also thanked the opposition parties for their support and cooperation and noted that four out of the five budgets his government presented during its tenure were passed in consensus.
Speaking about his party Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal’s participation in the next government, he said it would take an institutional decision about the matter. He also said that the provincial government would be formed in line with the government formed at the federal level.
