By Tilachan Pande,Tamghas, Dec. 20: People in Kaligandaki Rural Municipality of Gulmi district are compelled to risk their life while crossing the local Gumdikhola river. There is no bridge over the Gumdikhola river that divides Ward Nos. 4 and 6 of the rural municipality.
Balman Gaha, a local, complained that it is difficult to cross the river even in winter because of high current. The Gumdikhola river is the border of Purtighat of Ward No. 4 and Khadgakot of Ward No 6 of the rural municipality.
Abhiyan Thapa, a local, said that many young people crossed the river on motorcycles risking their life as well as their bikes. In monsoon, when the river swells it causes more problems to the locals as they cannot cross it even to take care of sick relatives living across the river.
The locals have demanded that the local government build a bridge over the river. Bed Bahadur Thapa, chairman of the rural municipality, said that a DPR has been prepared and sent to the road division for the construction of a bridge over the river.
He said that he was coordinating with the department and would forward the contract process for the construction of the bridge within a few months. He further said that he was taking initiatives for the construction of three other concrete bridges within the rural municipality. Thapa said that he had drawn the attention of the road division office regarding the problems.
