Gautam receives Aabishkari Akhyankar honour

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Dec. 19:  Dr. Dhruba Chandra Gautam was honoured with the title of Abishkari Akhyankar amid a programme held in the capital on Sunday.  On the occasion of Gautam's 80th birth anniversary and his eight-decade writing journey, Basanta Chaudhary Foundation honoured Gautam with the title.

Speaking at the event, Basanta Chaudhary, the founder of Basanta Chaudhary Foundation, said that Gautam was the inventor of the Nepali literature and said that he was very happy to present the award to such an excellent writer of Nepal.

 Dr. Gautam has 53 literary works including novels, poems, plays to his credit while Chaudhary has kept all 53 works of Gautam in his library.  Chaudhary said that he got the chance to be connected with Gautam since his elder brother Binod Chaudhary produced Nepali film Basudev.

 Basudev film is based on Gautam’s story Kattel Sirko Chotpatak. "I have been in contact with Gautam for 43 years and I consider myself lucky to be connected with him. Gautam has contributed a lot to Nepal through literature and art," said Chaudhary. 

Similarly, Megha Chaudhary Chairperson of Shree Lunkaran Das - Ganga Devi Chaudhary Sahityakala Mandir, said that today's generation feels more comfortable reading English literature than Nepali literature.

Nepal has also produced excellent literature and she believed that Nepali literature should be translated into other languages and spread across the world. Gautam expressed his happiness for the love and respect he received from the organisers and people.

"Celebrating 80th birthday was nothing to me but embarking on an eight-decade long writing journey is different for me. I always wanted to be a different writer, so I like to experiment with writing," said Gautam. 

Likewise, Dhruba Chandra Gautam Aabishkari Aakhyanka Dashakharu book published by Megha Chaudhary and edited by Khum Narayan Poudel and Ishan Gautam was unveiled during the progamme.
