By Our Correspondent,Parsa, Dec. 19: Chief Minister of Madhes Province Lal Babu Raut has said that the provincial government was taking necessary steps to institutionalise journalists and media houses in the province. Speaking at the third general convention of the Madhes Provincial Committee of the Federation of Nepali Journalists in Birgunj on Sunday, CM Raut informed that the government was aware of the contributions made by the media to the democratic movements in Nepal.

“In order to institutionalise journalists and media houses, we have established Mass Media Authority and Madhes Media Council,” said CM Raut.

He also informed that the government would try to implement possible suggestions received from the Federation.

While journalists argued that the government had done nothing special for them in the past five years, CM Raut stressed that many things had been done during the period in the journalism sector.

“Journalists should perform their responsibility properly. The government has also ensured 50 per cent quota for women journalists and a life insurance up to Rs. 300,000 for their children,” said CM Raut.
