BY A STAFF REPORTER,Bhaktapur, Dec. 19: Senior journalist and social worker Bhairav Risal was honoured with Rameshwar Sushila Memorial Literary Prize amid a function held at Katunje, Bhaktapur on Saturday.
Established in memory of Constituent Assembly member and former legislator late Rameshwar Dhungel and his wife Sushila by their son Sabin Dhungel, the prize carries a purse of Rs. 10,000.
It is informed that Risal was honoured for his significant contribution to Nepali language and literature through journalism in print and electronic media as well as his social work for 70 years.
Former Secretary of Government of Nepal Dwarika Nath Dhungel handed over the prize to Risal at a programme organised by Chakrapani Memorial Academy.
Risal has many books to his credit including Uhileko Nepal, Chhanieka Rachana and Sushila Bhairav. While receiving the prize, Risal requested to develop the culture of critical approach. “Please stop praising me. Otherwise, I may fail to correct myself,” he said.
Writers Subas Chandra Dhungel, Ram Mani Dhungel, Keshav Rupakheti and Ramgopal Ashutosh spoke about the contribution of Risal while social worker Ram Prasad Dawadi highlighted the personality of late Dhungel.
At the programme, Pallavi Pandey's poem 'Nari' was awarded among other poems recited by students of local schools.
