By Our Correspondent,Inaruwa, Dec. 12: Altogether 87 rape cases have been recorded in the first 11 months (from January to November) of this year in Sunsari district.
The data was revealed at a programme organised before the publication of the Nepal Human Rights Year Book 2023 by the Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC) in Sunsari.
During this period, 12 cases of murder, 31 cases of attempted rape, 24 cases of polygamy, five cases of human trafficking and smuggling, 20 cases of child sexual abuse and 10 cases of child molestation were recorded in the district, according to the INSEC.
Speaking at the review programme, Nepali Congress Sunsari Secretary Birendra Kumar Sah said that political awareness and cooperation were needed for full realisation of the human rights of all citizens.
Attention should be paid to reduce the incidences of drug use and children's involvement in it. He expressed his commitment to mobilising the party's leaders and workers for generating awareness against such illegal works.
Nabin Chand Sah, Coordinator of Senior Citizen Affairs, Inaruwa, said that the Nepal Human Rights Year Book should pay attention to the fact that the girls are still not well educated in the village.
Police Inspector at the District Police Office Sunsari Dal Kumar Rai said that Nepal Police was committed to reducing crime, punishing the guilty and ensuring justice to the victims. He said that because the Nepal Human Rights Year Book is a document, in some cases the victims would also get justice from the incidents recorded in the book.
Purshottam Ghimire, District Chairman of Civil Society, said that the Human Rights Year Book would show the human rights situation in the country and Sunsari's report should also be mentioned there. He suggested that the participation of civil society was necessary to eliminate all forms of violence and crime.
