Nepathya is still able to sustain their profound dominance in the Nepali music industry as the most eminent and impactful outfit since their inception in 1990, After three decades long musical career, the band has continuously been noted as trendsetters; garnering their distinct experimental flavours with elements extracted from various ethnicities residing in our rich and diverse
cultural-sphere.
Initially co-founded by Deepak Rana, Bhim Poon, and Amrit Gurung, the group envisioned a mixture of folk melodies with pop and rock flavours long before this fusion was considered “hip” by the Nepali music fraternity. With the rejuvenation of grassroots folk, its repertoire and stylistic ornamentations; Nepathya proclaims their prominence and relevance to a wider demographic
even today.
The group’s discography consists of nine albums to their credit: their 1991 self-titled debut entry “Himal Chuchure” (1993), “Min Pachas Ma” (1995), “Shringar” (1997), “Resham” (2001), “Bhedako Oon Jasto” (2003), “Ghatana” (2005), “Mero Desh” (2009), and “Aina Jhyal” (2010). The present line-up of the band consists of Amrit Gurung on vocals, Dhurba Lama on drums, Suraj Kumar Thapa on keyboard, Subin Shakya on bass, Niraj Gurung on guitars, and Shanti Bahadur Rayamajhi on madal.
The outfit has toured globally to perform in front of their beloved fans from the Nepali diaspora community residing in countries including the UK, the USA, Finland, Netherlands, Belgium, Australia, New Zealand, Israel, Korea, Japan, China, the UAE, India, and many more. Their most prestigious concert appends a sold-out show at the Wembley Arena, UK, on August 3, 2013, where Nepathya became the first ever Nepali act to perform amongst a staggering 8,000 attendees.
Their just as heeded noble concert series include ‘Education for Peace’ (2001), ‘Shanti Sangeet Yatra’ (2003) and ‘Nepathya for All’ (2006). Earnings from most of these performances were donated to charitable causes.
The group is currently on the road for an elaborate Nepal tour titled ‘Music for Humanity Nepathya Nepal Tour 2022’, a benefit concert for Manavsewa Ashram. The performance series kicked off at the grounds of Manavsewa Ashram, Biratnagar,
on December 2.
The subsequent shows were held at Adarshanagar Stadium, Birgunj, on December 5, and Bhutandevi School ground, Hetauda, on December 8. All three gigs were massively attended and thoroughly enjoyed by the band’s
loyal followers.
The outdoor venues also enhanced the ambience and accommodated a large crowd allowing the concerts to become one of the grandest events held at the respective cities in |
recent times.
Moreover, tonight, on December 11, Nepathya will take over the make-shift stage of Campachaur, Narayanghat, from 6 pm. The doors will open two hours prior so getting faster will ensure a better view for people interested in attending the performance.
After Chitwan, the group is due to play in Nepalgunj on December 15, Dhangadhi on December 18, Surkhet on December 21, Butwal on December 24, and in Pokhara on December 27. Meanwhile, the finale show has been scheduled in Kathmandu on December 31.
The tickets for all the concerts are priced Rs. 1,000 per head except for the finale KTM show which will be Rs. 1,500. The concert is produced by Nepalaya and co-organized with Manavsewa Ashram.
