Kathmandu, Nov 29: Khagendra GC from Nepal has been elected Vice-President of the Socialist International, a global organization of social democratic, socialist and labour parties.
The Socialist International's conference held in Madrid of Spain from November 25-27 this year unanimously elected GC to the post. GC has already served as the former Chairperson of the Nepali Public Relations Committee in the USA.
GC is the third Nepali to be elected to the post. Earlier founding leader of Socialist International and former Prime Minister Bishweshwar Prasad Koirala and sitting Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, representing the Nepal Congress, were elected to the post.
The Socialist International has altogether 132 political parties and organizations from all over the world.
Elected to the post of President of the organization was Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez. He was also elected to the post unanimously. During the discussion with newly elected Vice-President of the Socialist International, the organization's President as well as Spanish Prime Minister Sanchez recalled the Spanish government's support to Nepal during COVID-19 pandemic.
