BY OUR CORRESPONDENT,Sainamaina, Nov. 22: The number of women voters was found to be higher than men ones in all of the 12 polling stations of the Sainamaina Municipality. Of the total 3,500 votes cast, 2,000 were women and 1,500 men. The local leaders of political parties said that the number of women was higher because more men missed their vote as most of them were out of country for employment. In a polling station set up at Sainamaina Secondary School, 2900 voters voted, out of which 1700 were women voters.
Among three booths set up at the West Parroha Secondary School, 229 women and 171 men voted. Similarly, there were 156 male voters in one booth in Sainamaina -6 set up at the Ramapur Secondary School, while female voters numbered 197.
Although voting was stopped for a few hours in Sainamaina-10, a polling station at Pashupati Secondary School, the number of women voters was higher. Similarly, 3,500 votes were cast at Parroha Secondary School, of which 2,000 were females and 1500 males.
Uma KC, a polling station facilitator, said that not only in Sainamaina Municipality, the women voters outnumbered men in Butwal Municipality as well. KC said that only children, women and senior citizens were left in the villages as most of the men were out of the country to earn money.
According to the locals, the number of women voters has increased in the polling stations due to the fact that all the youths have left the village in search of employment and other opportunities.
Teta Narayan Mahat, a provincial member of CPN (Maoist centre), expressed his concern over the decreasing number of youths inside the country. Most of the youths are compelled to leave their home and country in search of employment. According to the census, the total population of Sainamaina Municipality is 62,700, of which the number of voters is 52,000.
