Mushikot, Nov. 12: More than Rs. 600,000 has been collected by selling heads of the sacrificed goat in the temple of Digre Saikumari Bhagwati in Musikot Municipality-5, Tharpu in Rukum West. According to the Temple Management Committee, Rs. 666,000 have been collected from selling goat heads offered by the devotees who came to worship at the Digre fair.
Shailendra KC, chairman of the committee, said altogether 1061 goats were sacrificed during three days of the five-day fair. Every year from Kartik Shukladdashi to Chaturdashi, goats are sacrificed in the temple of Digre Shaikumari.
The religious fair starts from Haribodhani Ekadashi and concludes on full moon day. Sacrifices are not offered during the first and last days. KC said that the heads of the goat offered at the temple during the three days is sold at the fair on the same day.
The money offered by the pilgrims to the temple is still being counted. KC said that it will take a few days to count as the work to bring the offerings collected in the temple to the district administration office has started.
According to the committee, the collected money will be spent on fair management, cleaning, construction of physical structures in and around the temple premises and religious work.
Pilgrims come from Rukum West, Rukum East, Salyan, Dang, Jajarkot and Rolpa, among other districts. There is a religious belief that when you visit and worship at the temple, your wishes will be fulfilled.
