Humla, Nov. 10: The Office of the Chief Election Officer of Humla has asked the Election Commission to arrange a helicopter to take its personnel to the three polling centres of Limi, Humla.
There are two points of entry into Limi, known as the village beyond the mountains.
However, both these points are blocked due to the snow that fell in the region last month.
“This has made it impossible for our staff as well as security personnel to walk to the Teel, Halji and Jang polling centres in the village,” said Chief Election Officer Dil Prasad Sapkota.
“So, we have asked the Commission to manage a chopper.”
Nara, situated at an altitude of 4,600 metres above sea level, and Nyalu, located at 5,000 metres above sea level, are the only two paths people can take to reach Limi.
However, they both currently lie blanketed under five feet of snow.
“Flying is the only option we have left to send our staff to the polling centres,” Sapkota said.
A total of 45 employees, including returning officers, assistants and security officers, have been assigned to Limi’s polling centres.
But many of them have not been able to travel because of the snowfall.
Although the Commission has not responded, Sapkota said that it was positive to the request.
