NC candidate for Morang 3 (A) passes away

Urlabari, Nov. 10: Shekhar Chandra Thapa, Minister of Forest, Environment and Land Conservation of Province 1 and candidate from Nepali Congress in Morang 3 (A) passed away at Nobel Medical College Teaching Hospital on Wednesday. 

Hospital manager Narayan Prasad Dahal said that Thapa died around 10:40 am on Wednesday. He was 58.

Thapa, a resident of Pathari Shanishchare Municipality-8 Sakhuwara of Morang, fell ill due to a dengue infection soon after registering his nomination on October 9. Being treated at the Nobel hospital, he developed pneumonia and piles. 

He was taken to Hams Hospital in Kathmandu by helicopter on October 13 for further treatment.

Thapa, who was elected proportional representation Member of Parliament from Province 1 in 2017, became the Minister of Forest, Environment and Land Conservation of Province 1 nine months ago. This time he was a direct candidate of Morang (3) 1 on behalf of the party. Late Thapa is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.

EC publishes new election Schedule 

Meanwhile, the Election Commission on Wednesday unveiled a new election schedule for Morang Constituency 3 (A) after a provincial assembly candidate of Nepali Congress Shekhar Chandra Thapa passed away. 

Commission has prepared a new election schedule to allow the ruling Nepali Congress to file a new candidacy in place of late Thapa.

As per the EC’s decision, nomination filing, filing complaint and objections against candidacy, publishing final list of candidates and providing election symbol will take place on Thursday and Friday.

The EC is schedule to file candidacy from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm on Friday. The list of registered candidates will be published by 4:00 pm and filing of complaint and objection against the candidacy will take place by 4:00-5:00 pm on the same day.
