Nepalgunj, Nov. 3: Locals of Narainapur Rural Municipality, which is a remote and backward local level in Banke district, have said that they will vote only for the candidate who can make proper arrangements for irrigation and foodstuff.

Ramesh Yadav of Narainapur-6 said that locals will vote for those candidates who promise to fulfill their demands as there is a food crisis due to drought in the area.

“This year, we faced food crisis due to drought, there is always a shortage of irrigation and there is a huge loss due to inundation every year,” he added.

"The people of Narainapur, who are suffering from drought and inundation, are worried about arranging food grains rather than elections," he said, adding that only those who address these concerns would get the vote."

Locals have been sharing their ordeals with the leaders and cadres of different parties for the upcoming elections to the House of Representatives and Provincial Assembly scheduled to be held on November 20.

Pramod Mishra, a resident of Katkuiya of Narainapur Rural Municipality-1, said that he would vote for the leader who would provide food and make proper arrangement of irrigation. He also demanded for making the local level inundation- and drought-free.

He said the people of the rural municipality have been facing problems like inundation, drought and unemployment for many years. "We will vote for those who will fulfill our demand," he added.

Minister for Youth and Sports Maheshwor Jung Gahatraj, who is contesting from Banke Constituency-1, said other problems would also be resolved as major problems like roads and electricity have already been solved.

Similarly, CPN (Maoist Centre)'s Krishna KC, who is contesting for the Province Assembly seat from the ruling alliance, said that many development works had been carried out in the past and would be continued in the days to come.

Surya Dhakal, CPN-UML's candidate for the House of Representatives from Banke Constituency-1, said they have come forward with a plan to solve the problems of the people of Narainapur in the long term. Istiyak Ahmad Shah, chairman of Narainapur Rural Municipality, said that the residents of Narainapur, who have been facing drought in lack of timely rain, are facing an issue of survival on a daily basis.
