Kathmandu, Oct. 30: The Election Commission (EC) has accelerated the transportation of the ballot papers and election materials for the upcoming elections to the House of Representatives and Provincial Assemblies slated for November 20.

Transportation of the ballot papers for the proportional presentation (PR) electoral system has been completed in 69 districts, while the task of transporting the ballot papers to eight districts is still pending.

Transporting of the ballot papers has been halted in some remote districts due to the poor road connectivity.

Similarly, the EC has started transporting 57 types of election materials including ballot boxes, fences, swastika stamps, and other items from Friday.

The EC has started transporting election materials in the districts of Province-1, Karnali Province and Sudurpaschim Province.

Now, the election materials will be transported to the remote districts, the EC informed.

The Commission has stated that the shipment of election materials is being carried out according to the pre-determined schedule.

The EC has completed printing of 23,680,500 ballot papers for the first-past-the-post (FPTP) electoral system.

According to EC’s e-bulletin, to the date, printing of 23,680,500 ballot papers for the FPTP system has been completed. Of the readied ballots, 11,898,000 are for the election to the HoR and 11,782,500 for the provincial assemblies.

Likewise, the EC has said the process of transporting ballot papers of the FPTP system will begin from Sunday.

The EC will begin to despatch the ballot papers from Kailali, Kanchanpur, Achham, Doti, Dadeldhura, Bajhang, Baitadi and Darchula districts of Sudurpaschim Province. For the existing 17,988,570 voters, about 40 million ballots will be needed for the FPTP electoral system and about the same number for the proportional representative (PR) electoral system.

Currently, the printing work is underway at the Janak Education Materials Center, Sanothimi amidst tight security arrangements.
