Gorkhapatra, EC ink agreement to support voter education

Kathmandu, Oct. 15: Gorkhapatra Corporation and the Election Commission (EC) have agreed to cooperate for the upcoming federal and provincial level elections.

Officials of the two organisations signed an agreement to this effect on Thursday at the Election Commission’s office in Kantipath, Kathmandu. 

Lal Bahadur Airi, general manager of Gorkhapatra, signed the agreement on behalf of the Corporation and Tulsi Bahadur Shrestha, joint secretary of the EC, signed on behalf of the Commission.

As per the agreement, the Corporation will translate the messages and information prepared by the Commission to educate the voters into the 37 languages published by Gorkhapatra Daily and include them in the respective pages. 

Similarly, the Corporation’s publications shall prioritise the publication of election-related news. Gorkhapatra Daily will also publish an election countdown in its front page. 

According to the agreement, the EC will provide Rs. 3 million to Gorkhapatra Corporation through the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology.
