Rangel, Sept 2 :  With the aim of processing five types of legumes and pulses and selling them in the market, a new industry has come into operation at Budhiganga-5 Hattimudha in Morang with an investment of Rs. 500 million.

The newly established company, Jain Foods Processing Pvt. Ltd., is a joint venture of three partners that aims to produce quality pulses and gram flour for the domestic and international markets.  The company launched its first products on Tuesday.

On the occasion, Chairman of Morang Merchants' Association, Navin Rijal, and former Minister of State, Moti Lal Dugar announced that the sale of 'Upahar' brand pulses produced by the industry had been opened for the market.

Rijal said that the industry was established in Sunsari-Morang Industrial Corridor with a huge investment. He claimed that the industry will meet the challenge of providing quality pulses to Nepali kitchens.

Proprietor of the company Amit Kumar Jain informed that the industry had started processing lentils, chickpeas, peas, black gram beans, and green grams and sending them to the market packaging as per the requirement of the consumers.

Pulses will be sold in small packets for household purposes and in large sacks of 25 kg for mass consumption.

The owner claimed that the industry processes pulses at a capacity of 2.5 tonnes per hour. According to Jain, automatic packaging and gram flour plant will be added in the near future.

Chandan Jain, another proprietor of the company, informed that 50 percent of Nepali and 50 percent of imported raw materials are used in the plant.

The industry will adopt six types of methods for processing raw legumes that include washing, drying, de-husking, grading, sorting, and packaging of raw pulses. Raw materials will also be imported from Australia, Ukraine, Myanmar, and Canada.

The pulses are being produced with the approval of the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control. Pankaj Dugad, another partner of the industry, claimed that there will be no compromise on the products.
