Ruling party leaders to hold meeting again today

By A Staff Reporter, Kathmandu, Sept 1: A meeting of the top leaders of the ruling five parties and the members of the seat sharing committee held on Wednesday concluded on a positive note. The meeting was expected to divide the 165 seats of House of Representatives whose elections are held under the first-past-the-post category, as claimed by a few coalition leaders. 

However, the meeting did not take any final decision over seat sharing among the five parties for November 20 elections to both the House of Representative and the Provincial Assemblies. 

After the meeting held at Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba`s official residence in Baluwatar, Rastriya Janamorcha leader and seat sharing taskforce member Himal Puri said the next meeting is scheduled for Thursday for further discussion and garner consensus on seat sharing.

In the meeting, leaders of the ruling parties- Nepali Congress, CPN-Maoist Centre, CPN (Unified Socialist), Janata Samajwadi Party-Nepal and Rastriya Janamorcha put forth their claims over the seats.

Meanwhile, Madhav Kumar Nepal, chairman of CPN-Unified Socialist, has said that the party would quit the coalition if it would not benefit the party.

Starting the Mahakali-Mechi campaign of Youth Association chairman Nepal said that the party will not be a ladder for others. He claimed that the party’s role was not appreciated. The partners in the coalition should not forget the contribution of the party to national politics. 

Stating that only seats not wanted by others were given to the party, he said that it would not participate in a coalition without benefit. Meanwhile, speaking at a seminar organised by Tourism Department of Central Party on Challenges and Problems of Tourism and Civil Aviation Sector, chairman Nepal said that the Narayanhiti Palace Museum should be constructed depicting the history of Nepal.
