Kathmandu, Aug. 31: Chairperson of the CPN (Maoist Centre) Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has said it was worrying to politicize the citizenship bill the government presented in the parliament.

During a discussion he had with President Bidya Devi Bhandari on the citizenship bill on Wednesday, Chairperson Prachanda made it clear that the bill was brought to end the situation that the children of the naturalized citizens were left in statelessness.

"The Bill has come with similar provisions included in the ordinance brought by then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and certified by you. It is worrying to have it politicized," Chairman Prachanda reiterated in the meeting.

The concern shown by President and Maoist Centre on marital naturalized citizenship is same, he said, adding that there was no new provision in the bill as the parliament had not made national consensus on naturalized citizenship. "Government has committed to bring the bill by forging national consensus," he reminded.
