By A Staff Reporter Kathmandu, July 30 : Madhesi Unity Society (MUS), a global organisation of Madhesi diaspora, held an interaction on the status of education in Terai-Madhes in Kathmandu on Thursday. Participating in the programme chaired by the society's founder Dr. Rabindra Kumar Yadav, more than half dozen speakers expressed their concerns on the deteriorating condition of education in the southern plain.
"It pains to see the land of the Lord Buddha, Janak and Gargi lagging behind other parts of the country in education," they said. They added that the level of education in women, Dalit and Muslim communities in the region was even more disappointing.
They were of the views that the three tiers of the government should strive to upgrade the education of the region in coordination with the local governmental and nongovernmental stakeholders.
Professor Pramod Mishra, educationist Binay Kusiyait, lawyer Mohana Ansari, researcher Dr. Sohan Sha, PhD scholar Sanjay Pasi, Dalit activist Ram Suphal Saday and woman activist Rita Sah expressed their views on the ways to enhance the quality of education in the area.
