Nairobi fly infection detected in Ilam

Mangalbare, July 12  :  Nairobi fly infection cases have been detected in the Ilam district. Nairobi fly is also known as acid fly.    


People suffering from Nairobi fly infection are found at some local levels of the district including Mai, Suryodaya, and Ilam municipalities as well as Rong rural municipality.  

  
It is said that the infection is caused by the bite of the Nairobi fly, an insect that looks like a mosquito with a red and black abdomen. The infection is transmitted to humans from the feces of the insects.    


A resource person at the District Health Office, Bimal Baral, said people infected by Nairobi flies have started visiting the hospital.    


He shared, "A mosquito net should be used during the night to be safe from insect bites." A large number of people infected by Nairobi flies have been found visiting District government hospitals and private hospitals as well as pharmacies in the recent period.    


The infected people develop different symptoms including rashes, itchiness, and blisters on the skin.


Health workers urged the people not to panic as there is a treatment for Nairobi fly infection. Especially, children and elderly people should be protected from the infection, they added. (RSS)
