Sugar smuggling up in Banke, 520 quintals confiscated

By Siraj Khan, Nepalgunj, June 24: The police have confiscated 520 quintals of sugar imported illegally from India for black marketing here.

Shyam Krishna Adhikari, Superintendent of Police (SP) and chief of the Banke District Police Office, informed that the police has taken under control some 520 sacks of sugar and 51 sacks of milled beans from the premises of Nandani Mill.

The mill is located near the district police office.

SP Adhikari said that sugar and beans were confiscated as they were found to have been smuggled into Nepal from India.

Locals at the border points say that a large amount of sugar is smuggled into Nepal daily and stored at different places in Nepalgunj for black marketing.

The police said that investigation into the smuggling of sugar has been initiated and the guilty will be brought to justice.

India has banned the export of sugar.
