Number of students opting for abroad studies shoots up by 14 folds

By Bishnu Pandey, Kathmandu, June 23: The number of students flying aboard for studies has shot up by 14 folds in the first two months of this year when compared to the same period last year.

Hari Niraula, Chief of the Abroad Study Permission Section under the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, said that the number of students seeking no objection letter (NOC) for abroad studies increased by 14 folds as 30,384 students took the NOC letters in the first two months (mid-April to mid-June) of this year compared to only 2,152 students in the first two months of last year.

Of the major destinations for Nepali students, Australia, Japan, the US, and Canada stand as the top countries.

Niraula said that about a thousand students take the NOC on daily basis in recent times.

"With the subsiding of the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of students going abroad for studies has gone up," he said.
