DCC results pour in from districts

By Our Correspondents, Okhaldhunga/Sunsari/ Bara/Pyuthan, June 14:  Results District Coordination Committee elections are pouring in from across the country. 

Nepali Congress (NC) candidates have been elected unanimously in Okhaldhunga District Coordination Committee (DCC).  Dilli Ram Khanal and Tara Karki of NC have been elected in the post of DCC chairperson vice-chair respectively.

Likewise, Gopal Man Thapa, Rajababu Kirati, Badribikram Karki, Bhim Kumar Gautam, Bhim KumariKatwal, Bhim Kumari Kami and Maiya Sunwar have been elected members, according to NC provincial working committee member Rudra Prasad Adhikari.

Out of 16 voters for the DCC election, NC alone had nine voters. Similarly, CPN-UML had five voters and CPN (Maoist Centre) and Janata Samajwadi Party-Nepal had one voter each.

The Chief Returning Officer administered the oath of office and secrecy to newly elected chairperson Dilli Ram Khanal.

Meanwhile, Nepali Congress candidate Rajan Meheta has been elected as the chair of Sunsari District Coordination Committee.

On the backing of the ruling coalition, NC candidate Meheta and his panel, including the candidate of CPN (Maoist Centre) and Janata Samajwadi Party-Nepal were elected in the DCC.

Kamala Dahal has been elected as vice-chairperson while the members elected are Shesh Kumari Ghimire, Lal Kumari Chaudhary, Kalawati Majhi, Kumari Bishwakarma, Tanka Prasad Gurung, Salim Miya and Bhupendra Urab.

According to the Office of the Returning Officer, Sunsari, Mehata and his panel received 14 votes while the opposition party CPN-UML candidates received 10 votes.

There were 24 voters for the DCC election and the coalition had a clear majority.

Likewise, candidates of the ruling coalition have been elected unopposed in Bajhang District Coordination Committee.

According to the assistant returning officer of Bajhang Narendra Sharma, Nar Bahadur Bohara of the Nepali Congress has been elected unopposed as the head of DCC.

Krishna Bahadur Bista of CPN (Unified Socialist) has been elected unopposed as the vice-chairperson.

Similarly, Asmita Devi Chadara, Gauri Shankar Joshi and Rita Kami of NC, Batuli Devi Od and Laxmi Devi Kami of the CPN (Unified Socialist), Top Bahadur Khadka and Gorakh Bahadur Singh of CPN (MC) have been elected members in the DCC.

Candidates from only the ruling coalition had filed their nominations for the DCC election in Bajhang.

Amid a function on Sunday, District Judge Bishnu Prasad Awasthi administered the oath of office and secrecy to the newly elected chairperson Bohara.

Chairperson Bohara administered the oath of office and secrecy to other elected members.

Similarly, the panel of the ruling coalition has won the election of the Pyuthan District Coordination Committee.

According to the Office of Chief Returning Officer, Pyuthan, Nepali Congress candidate Dharam Bahadur GC has been elected unopposed as chairperson while Durga Regmi of CPN (MC) has been elected unopposed as vice-chairperson.

The elected members of DCC Pyuthan are Topa Ram Kalathoki of NC, Tara B.K and Nirmala Pokharel, of CPN (MC), Gudendra Basnet, Indra Bahadur Khadka, Khuma Adhikari and Rekam Rasaili of Ratriya Janamorcha, said District Election Officer Rajan Shrivastav.

Only the candidates of the ruling coalition had registered candidacies for DCC election in Pyuthan.

Meanwhile, the candidates of CPN-UML have been elected as chair and vice chair of Bara District Coordination Committee. 

According to the Chief Returning Officer Khil Nath Regmi of Bara, Narendra Kumar Sah and Chandika Upreti have been elected as chairperson and vice-chairperson respectively. Sah received 20 votes while Upreti received 17 votes. 

Likewise, three candidates of JSP-N, two each of CPN-UML and Loktantrik Samajbwadi Party were elected as DCC members. 

The elected members of DCC are Pradip Kumar Keshari, Shyam Babu Yadav, Chandeshwor Yadav, Prabha Devi Sah, Sumitra Devi, Nesha Khatun and Uma Devi Chamar. 

District Coordination Committee (DCC) is a mechanism envisioned by Article 220 of the constitution to coordinate between the authorities of the local level while monitoring development and construction works.

The DCC is a nine-member committee elected by the District Assembly that includes a head, a deputy head, at least three women and at least one from the Dalit or minority community as its members.

As per the legal provision, the election of the DCC will be held within 15 days after the completion of the village/municipal executive elections of the district. The Election Commission has aimed to conclude the DCC elections throughout the country by the third week of June.
