By Siraj Khan  Nepalgunj, June 11: Sweltering heat has upended normal life in Nepalgunj.   According to the Meteorological Forecasting Department in the city, temperature there shoot up to above 44 degrees Celsius these days.

Due to the blistering heat, Nepalgunj market looks deserted in the afternoon, with people going out only in the morning and evening.

Imran Jargar of Nepalgunj-11, who came out of the house for an urgent work, said that he almost fell unconscious on the road due to the scorching heat and unrelenting heat wave.

According to Jargar, he finally got up after the locals came and watered him and put him in the air for a while.

Most of the locals have said that they feel dizzy as soon as they leave the house due to extreme heat.

Due to the unbearable heat and heat wave, the presence of service recipients in government and non-government offices has become markedly thinned.

Locals have complained that their lives have become more difficult because of irregular power supply and very low voltage.

The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Nepalgunj Distribution Centre has said that despite the efforts to regularise the power supply as much as possible, the effect of heat has caused more problems due to the deterioration of electrical equipment.

Sales of fruits, sugarcane juice and soft drinks have risen sharply in the market. Sales of fans, coolers and ACs have also gone up, said a businessman.

At the same time, due to the extreme heat and 'Loo', the pressure of patients in the hospital with various infectious diseases is also increasing, said the doctors of the hospital here.

Patient pressure is seen going up in the Bheri Hospital and the Nepalgunj Medical College Teaching Hospital, Kohalpur. In order to avoid 'Loo', dieticians have suggested eating healthy food and drinking boiled or filtered water.

Physicians recommend keeping utensils cleaned, washing hands thoroughly with soap and water before and after meals and not going out in the afternoon. Nepalgunj Sub Metropolitan City and Khajura Rural Municipality have decided to close local level schools for five days starting from Friday due to extreme heat. Both local levels have informed about the decision by issuing a press statement on Thursday afternoon.
