By Gopi Gawali Nawalparasi, June 8: The Jhari River, situated to the east of Parasi, the headquarters of Nawalparasi district, is set to be cleaned to prevent floods in West Nawalparasi.
Millions of rupees were lost in Parasi as the flood entered the district headquarters during the unseasonal flood last February.
Due to unseasonal rains, the river overflowed from its banks at Sauwatikar village and flooded the district headquarters. According to Dhanpat Yadav, Chief of Ramgram Municipality, tens of millions of rupees were lost due to the floods in the district headquarters.
After the second local level election, the newly appointed mayor, Yadav, said that the newly appointed people's representatives have decided to clean the river and embank the river to protect the district headquarters from the flood. The municipality has allocated Rs 1.5 million, Irrigation Division Office Rs. 8 million and Lumbini Province Rs. 2 million for the implementation of the decision of the first meeting, said Ramgram Municipality Engineer Satish Gupta.
According to Engineer Gupta, to reduce the risk of possible flooding in the district headquarters, there is a plan to remove the excess sand and soil from the river, clean the river, embank the western part of the river, and increase the width of the river in the areas where the river width is less.
