By Arjun Kafle/Radha Krishna Dumre Syangja, May 20: The results of Local Level Election 2022 held on May 13 in all 11 local levels of Syangja have been made public.
Among five municipalities and six rural municipalities, Nepali Congress (NC) won the chief posts in four municipalities and a rural municipality while Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) clinched the posts in five rural municipalities and a municipality.
CPN-UML won the chief posts in two municipalities, including Syangja’s headquarters Putalibazar Municipality, and five rural municipalities in the 2017 local election.
Since 1997, CPN-UML had never lost the election from Putalibazar. However, NC won the mayoral post of the municipality in this year’s election.
Tulsi Regmi and Devi Aryal from NC have been elected the mayor and deputy mayor of Putalibazar Municipality. Tulsi received 12,512 votes and won against his closest competitor Sima Kumari Chhetri from CPN-UML. Sima had received 10,900 votes.
Devi received 11,748 votes to be elected as the deputy mayor. Her competitor Mahesh Puri from CPN-UML got 10,761 votes. NC’s Guru Prasad Bhattarai and Hema Neupane also won against the CPN-UML candidates in Galyang Municipality. CPN-UML won in Galyang during the previous local election.
Guru Prasad received 9,621 votes and won against his closest competitor Surya Prasad Gaire ‘Paras’ of CPN-UML. Gaire, who is also CPN-UML Syangja district chairman, received 8,922.
Hema won the deputy mayor post of Galyang by receiving 9,118 votes against CPN-UML’s Devi Thapa (9,055 votes).
Similarly, NC’s Govinda Kumar Karmacharya (6,504 votes) and Bhagwati Regmi Aryal (7,179) defeating CPN-UML's Bishwanath Aryal (5,669 votes) and Saraswati Adhikari (4,892 votes).
In Chapakot Municipality, NC’s Dev Bahadur Khand has been elected the mayor. He won receiving 7,490 votes against CPN-UML’s Raju Koirala (6,555 votes).
Isha Rana of NC has been elected the deputy mayor of Chapakot after she won by receiving 7,413 votes against CPN-UML’s Srishti Malla (6,376 votes).
NC’s Prakash Tiwari got elected as the chairman of Arjunchaupari Rural Municipality with 5,291 votes winning against CPN-UML’s Chinmaya Gurung (3,347 votes). Sapana Gurung of NC won the vice chairperson post of Arjunchaupari after receiving 4,827 votes against CPN-UML’s Tanka Prasad Khanal (3,767 votes).
Meanwhile, CPN-UML won in Waling Municipality. UML’s Krishna Khand received 13,776 votes and got elected as the mayor. However, NC’s Kabita Tiwari Gaire became the deputy mayor of Waling after receiving 12,822 votes.
CPN-UML’s Ghanashyam Subedi (3,836 votes) and Deu Kumari Gurung (3,978 votes) have been elected the chairman and vice chair of Phedikhola Rural Municipality respectively.
Likewise, CPN-UML’s Bishwanath Paudel (5,177 votes) and Sita Thapa (5,273 votes) got elected the chairman and vice chair of Andhikhola Rural Municipality respectively.
In Biruwa Rural Municipality, CPN-UML’s Surya Bahadur Kunwar (4,872 votes) and Bhagwati Sharma (4,937 votes) won the posts of chairman and vice chairperson respectively.
Khim Bahadur Thapa (6,700 votes) and Sabitri Koirala (6,223 votes) of CPN-UML also won the chairman and vice chair of Kaligandaki Rural Municipality respectively.
In Harinas Rural Municipality, CPN-UML’s Khim Narayan Manandhar (4,769 votes) and Indra Kumari Thapa (4,740 votes) have become the chairman and vice chair respectively.
