by Jayakrishna Yadav Inaruwa, May 10: A total of 578, 000 ballot papers have arrived in Sunsari for the local poll of May 13.
The District Election Office informed that election materials including ballot papers, ink, stamp pads, lacquer and candles arrived in the district, and it will dispatch the materials to all polling stations of the district soon.
Krishna Poudel, Chief of Election Office, Sunsari, said that preparations have been made to send the materials to all the polling station. “We have received required materials and a process to distribute them to 581 polling stations of 12 local bodies including two sub-metropolitan cities, four municipalities and six rural municipalities is underway,” he said.
According to him, the Election Office will send required materials to remote polling stations on Monday and to the nearest polling station on Tuesday.
“We will send polling officers and assistant polling officers with election materials in polling stations after orientation,” he added.
For now, the officials are busy monitoring additional polling stations. He said that monitoring has been carried out at various places with security personnel to create a safe and fearless environment for the voters to cast their votes. “Preparations in all the polling stations have reached the final stage,” he said.
Chief Election Officer Kailas Prasad Subedi said that election symbols were provided to the candidates, training for the polling officers was conducted and a total of 5,78,000 ballot papers have been received.
“All the necessary materials including ballot boxes and ballot papers are being dispatched to all polling centres safely,” he added.
According to the data provided by the Election Office, there are 534,765 voters in Sunsari district. The highest number of voters is in Itahari sub-metropolis while the lowest number in Barju Rural Municipality.
Out of 12 municipalities of Sunsari, Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City has 100, 324 voters whereas Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City has 104, 626 voters.
Ajaya Mishra, information officer at the Election office in the district, said that there are 166 polling stations and 581 polling booths in the district for the local poll to be held on May 13.
