Election campaign intensifies in Banke

blog

By Our Correspondent  Nepalgunj, May 8: The election campaign of the Muslim community in Nepalgunj intensified after the end of Eid, major festival of the community. Candidates in different wards have been engaged in a fast-paced campaign to win over voters by visiting their homes. They have intensified the propaganda by forming groups, resulting in a hot election atmosphere.

Regardless of the blistering heat, the candidates and their supporters seem to be busy campaigning even in the scorching afternoon sun. They are seen carrying umbrellas, holding water bottles in their hands and washing their faces with water.

In Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan constituency, Kamaruddin Rai, the deputy mayoral candidate from the alliance, said that the election campaign had been expedited after the end of Eid. “Believers in Islam fast for a month of Ramadan before they celebrate Eid, which is why the candidates remained passive for the month,” he added.

Ra,  further,  said that they planned to reach every house and more wards in a short period of time they were left with notwithstanding the scorching heat. He said that the campaign to form different teams and reach out many places at once to spread their agenda and pursue voters was underway.

Due to the extreme heat, most of the candidates in the ward have decided to do more public relations work in the morning and evening. However, the mayoral and deputy mayoral candidates are forced to travel everywhere, even in the heat of the day.

Candidate for mayor of Kohalpur Municipality and candidate for chairman of Khajura Rural Municipality went to visit the voters even in the afternoon when heat was at its peak in the region.

Tapt Poudel of the Nepali Congress, a candidate for the post of chairperson of Raptisonari Rural Municipality, said that the campaign was being carried out in a coordinated manner.
