Gorkhapatra anniversary prize winners announced

By A Staff Reporter Kathmandu, May. 7: Various journalists associated with the Gorkhapatra Corporation are receiving awards on the occasion of the 122nd anniversary of the Gorkhapatra daily and the 60th anniversary of the Gorkhapatra Corporation on Saturday.  

On the occasion, Gorkhapatra publication has announced the names of its nine stringers, one each from all seven provinces and two from the Kathmandu Valley, for the Best Stringer Awards for their outstanding performance. 

A committee formed to pick the winners recommended Hari Prasad Koirala, Urlabari reporter of Morang from Province 1, Mala Kumari Karna, Kalyanpur reporter of Saptari from Madhes Province, Basanta Parajuli, Narayangadh reporter of Chitwan from Bagmati Province, Narendra Dhakal, Gorkha reporter from Gandaki Province, Chhabilal Pandey, Butwal reporter of Rupandehi from Lumbini Province, Pratik Ichchhuk Sharma, Salyan repo rter from Karnali Province and Sher Bahadur Sarki, Bajura reporter from Sudupashcim Province, for the prize.

Renu Dhakal of The Rising Nepal in English group and Upesh Maharjan of Gorkhapatra Online from Nepali group were selected for the best Stringer Award from the Kathmandu Valley.  

Similarly, the Gorkhapatra Corporation has decided to award  Narendra Bahadur Shrestha, an 8th level manager of CTP department of the corporation, with the best employee award of the year 2078 BS. 

Similarly, Gorkhapatra journalist Dev Bahadur Kunwar has been awarded for investigative news reporting.

Likewise, Ram Chandra-Indu Journalism Award-2022 founded by the Gorkhapatra chapter of Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) will be presented to Nirmal Kumar Acharya, former Editor-in-Chief of the Gorkhapatra daily. The prize carries a purse of Rs. 50,000.

KP Gautam and Hari Prasad Bhattarai will be awarded with Gorkhapatra Journalism Award-2022 and Ishwar Chandra Jha will be awarded with Suman-Bhomjan Memorial Journalism Award-2022. The prizes carry a purse of Rs. 10,000 each.

Similarly, the prizes that could not be handed over the previous years due to COVID-19 pandemic will be distributed this year, according to Saroj Dhungel, chairman of FNJ-Gorkhapatra chapter.

Meanwhile, Nepal Rastriya Karmachari Sangathan, Gorkhaptra Chapter has decided to honour  Som Bahadur Ghale, Harikanthalal Shrestha and Dukhi Mandal with ‘Jagaruk Janasewak Samman’ on the occasion of the Gorkhapatra Day.
