By A Staff Reporter Kathmandu, May 7: Minister for Information and Communication Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki has expressed dissatisfaction over the progress of the work done by the subordinate bodies under the ministry.

Addressing a meeting of the third quarterly progress review of the Ministry and ministry level development problem solution committee of the fiscal year 2078/79 on Friday, he directed the heads of all the bodies to work in such a way that the people can feel.

Minister Karki appealed to the subordinate agencies to work in a result-oriented manner. He also said that he was not satisfied with the progress presented in the meeting. Questioning the participants in the meeting, he said, “We have made a performance agreement. But has the work progressed as per the agreement now? Let’s not limit the meeting to a meeting.”

“Since most of the services related to the citizens are linked to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, the ministry is the body that presents the face of the government,” Minister Karki said. He instructed the Nepal Telecommunications Authority to address the network-related problem at the earliest.

“In some parts of the country, people are still forced to climb trees to make telephone calls. The situation with the Internet is similar. We need to get rid of this problem as soon as possible,” he said.

He also requested the representatives of all the agencies to immediately inform the ministry if they face any practical problem while working. He said, “If there are issues that need to be included in the government’s policy, programme and budget, please let us know.” I will take initiative to include those issues in the budget,” he said.

Minister Karki also instructed the agencies under the Ministry to explain the satisfactory progress made in some projects in the next review meeting. “People are looking for work. They have sought implementation. Let’s work to the best of our ability and capability.”

Secretary of the Ministry Dr. Baikuntha Aryal said that the ministry is ready to rectify any policy problem while working. He said, “Let’s finish the policy and procedural work as soon as possible. Let’s complete the rest of the work in the next two months.”

During the meeting, representatives of the concerned bodies of the ministry presented the progress reports of their respective offices.

At the meeting, Executive Chairman of Gorkhapatra Corporation Bishnu Prasad Subedi presented the progress made by the Corporation. He said that the layout of Gorkhapatra and The Rising Nepal Daily has been changed recently and online has also been improved.

According to the ministry, the ministry’s capital expenditure was only 36.83 per cent in the third quarter. Of the 124 milestones to be started and completed by the third quarter of the current fiscal year, 50 have been completed. There are 44 and 30 milestones that have been started and have not been started yet  respectively.
