By Kapil Gyawali Siddharthanagar, May 5: A five-party ruling alliance has unveiled their joint manifesto for Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City, with a commitment to make Butwal liveable.
Organising a press meet on Wednesday, the ruling coalition has unveiled the manifesto expressing their commitment to unite for the development of Butwal.
The manifesto was jointly unveiled by the mayoral candidates of Nepali Congress Khel Raj Pandey, CPN (Maoist Centre) deputy mayoral candidate Chin Bahadur Gurung, central member of Janata Samajwadi Party Kamal Khanal, leaders of CPN (Maoist Centre) – Dr. Bal Krishna Chapagain, Raju Gurung, Mahendra Bhusal – and leader of Rastriya Janamorcha Party Padam Shrestha.
During the event, leaders of the ruling coalition expressed their commitment to making Butwal prosperous.
They claimed that the five parties would stand together and develop the city as a common city.
In their manifesto, the ruling coalition has expressed commitment not to use government vehicles for private and party purposes, to make public the property details of the people's representatives annually, and to contribute one month's salary of the people's representatives to the health insurance programme of the city dwellers.
Pandey, mayoral candidate of the coalition, said, “I express my commitment to creating an environment where every political party will feel the city belongs to them.” In the manifesto, the ruling coalition pledged to develop the office of Butwal Sub-Metropolitan as a common forum by making it inclusive and disabled friendly.
The Mayor's Youth Advisory Board will be formed in Butwal, the manifesto added.
The coalition has put forward a plan to form an intellectual council in Butwal comprising researchers to attract city’s intellectuals and businessmen from home and abroad to return to the city and run their business and profession.
The coalition parties have expressed commitment to making public services accessible and hassle free, to quickly deliver specialised public service at people’s door, and make public administration free from corruption and irregularities.
There is a plan to set up a ‘Hello Mayor's Desk’ to listen to the complaints of the people about people’s representatives.
The ruling coalition party has also forwarded their plan to allocate equitable budget for the sustainable and balanced development of all the wards, build two municipal hospitals in the city, establish ward-level health service centre with laboratory and emergency services, make arrangements of free sanitary pads for women, operate free ambulance service, establish Ayurveda and naturopathy hospital and to upgrade Lumbini Provincial Ayurveda Hospital.
