Fourty one withdraw candidacies in Myagdi 718 candidates in the fray for 237 posts

By Our Correspondent Myagdi, May 2: Altogether 41 candidates have withdrawn their candidacies from the various posts in the local bodies in Myagdi district.

 Now 718 candidates are in the fray for 237 vacant posts in various local bodies in the district.

A total of 29 candidates had registered their nominations for the post of chief of six local bodies in the district, 23 candidates for the post of deputy chief, 149 candidates filed nominations for the post of 45 ward chairpersons, 275 for 90 open ward members, 125 for 45 women members and 117 for 45 Dalit women members. 

According to the District Election Office, Myagdi, 718 candidates are in the fray for a total of 237 posts-- 12 chiefs, 12 deputy chiefs and 45 ward chairs and 180 ward members six municipalities.

Election Commission’s final data published on Friday night shows that two candidates who have registered their nomination for the post of mayor and the deputy mayor in Beni Municipality had quit their claims from the post. Seven ward chairpersons, 23 women, two Dalit women members and seven candidates under open category members in Beni Municipality withdrew their candidacies.

Similarly, data in the national server shows that two ward chairpersons and three open members also quit their claim from Dhawalagiri Rural Municipality. In Mangala Rural-Municipality, seven candidates including one chairman, three vice chairmen, one ward chairperson, one woman member and one Dalit woman member withdrew their candidacies.

 Ward chairpersons, women members and Dalit women members have withdrawn their candidacies from Raghuganga Rural Municipality. No candidate quit from the election race in Annapurna and Malika Rural Municipalities. 

The Office of the Returning Election Officer in Dhaulagiri informed that all the posts in Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality Ward No. 1 have been elected unopposed. Bhola Regmi, Election Officer, said that Jhak Bahadur Chhantyal of the CPN-Maoist Centre was elected unopposed. 

Three candidates of Maoist Centre respectively Satmaya BK, Sita Kumari Chhantyal, KI Singh Chhantyal and an independent candidate Gunaram Chhantyal have been elected unopposed as Dalit women members. The Maoist Centre and the Nepali Congress have forged an alliance in Beni Municipality.
