Rains predicted for today

By A Staff Reporter Kathmandu, May 2: Several parts of the country received rainfall on Sunday because of various disturbances including the influence of local wind, the low-pressure system formed in Uttar Pradesh of India to the plains of West Bengal and the western wind. According to Hira Bhattarai, a senior meteorologist at the Meteorological Forecast Division under the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DHM), Province 1, Bagmati, Gandaki and Madhes Provinces will receive rainfall also on Monday.

He further said that the current pre-monsoon season would remain active in the coming days.

“The current system will exist for a few more days and again another new system will be developed to give continuity to the pre-monsoon season,” Bhattarai said.

The DHM also suggested taking necessary precautions as it could rain with thunder and lightning on any day anywhere. 

Meanwhile, thunderstorm and landslide on Friday and Saturday destroyed private and public houses in East Rukum. A landslide damaged a house at Saipatung in Bhume Rural Municipality-2 in East Rukum while roofs of many houses and a shop were blown by a powerful wind. 

A two-storey house of Ramdhan Pun was buried by a landslip that was caused after the canal of the local Tribeni Hydropower Project got blocked, said District Police Office, East Rukum.

The Police officials said that the wind also caused damages to public and private school buildings, government offices and shops at Chunwang of Bhume Rural Municipality-9.
