Dozens of houses damaged by storm in Bajura

Bajura, Apr. 28: A fire caused by the storm at the house of Tuli Devi Budha in Ward No. 2 of Khaptad Chhededaha Rural Municipality of Bajura district killed an elderly on Tuesday night.

An unprecedented storm had ignited fire in the house from a brazier while cooking food at around 8 pm. “Tuli Devi Budha, a 75-year-old, and 15 livestock died in the fire,” said Gindra Bahadur Bogati, information officer of Bajura District Police Office.

Two oxen, a cow and 12 goats in the house had died.

Alongside the fire, the storm had wreaked havoc across the district on Tuesday night. 

Over a dozen houses have sustained damage due to the strong wind in Badimalika, Triveni, Budhiganga alongside Khaptad Chhededaha areas. A fallen tree in Ward No. 7 of Budhiganga Municipality had damaged three houses owned by local Chakra Bahadur Sarki, Dhan Bahadur Sarki and Bajire Sarki.

Likewise, tin roofs of several houses in Ward No. 8 of Budhiganga were also blown away by the storm. The storm affected families are in difficulties after their houses became roofless. Before the storm came and gusted away the roofs, the houses had sustained damages during snowfall, flood and landslide earlier as well.

The storm also damaged trees of kafal (Myrica esculenta), kulam mango, peach and orange, among others. The locals stressed that they were in great loss after the fruits 

were damaged.
