blog

By Rajan Raut, Humla, April 22: Cooperative members of Humla have started collective vegetable farming. The motive of this farming was to generate a source of income and employment opportunities.

Ward Chairman of Dudhkantha Krishi Sahakari Sanstha, Kharpunath Rural Municipality-4 Rangamit Shahi said that the vegetable farming has been started by the collective effort of 35 members of the cooperative. Before starting the farming in the collective model this year, the members used to grow vegetables individually.

Out of the 246 members, 35 came together for cooperative farming. The farming extended to 40 Ropanis lands and 20 ropanis lands are occupied by onion farming.

One of the members of the cooperative farming Adan Rawal said that they have experienced a good amount of income from vegetables grown from a small piece of land. Subsequently, they decided to leverage income sources by entering into collective vegetable farming. Farming is being practised on their own land farmers. There is easy access to markets for the vegetable.

Good Neighbors International Nepal and Snowland Integrated Development Center used to provide assistance with vegetable farming. However, the farmer has started farming from their own investment for this year.

Technician Junga Bahadur Shahi said that collective farming is going to be developed into pocket areas.

The cooperative will conduct capacity development training for farmers. In the previous year, the member of the cooperative has earned Rs 25 lakhs from onion farming.
