As we observe the 16th year of the restoration of democracy, called Loktantra in Nepali parlance, a reflection on achievements and missed opportunities during these years is imperative. As the Election Commission (EC) has started nomination process for the representatives of local governments across the country from Sunday, women leaders have said that there are fears that presence of women at the local governments may diminish as parties are forging alliance for upcoming local elections. Article 17 of the Local Level Election Act stipulates that a political party must ensure that one of the local level head or deputy head must be a woman while registering their candidature. "However, the provision will not apply if the party fields only one candidate," adds the act. Because of the provision, women's representation as local level chiefs and deputy chiefs will decrease when alliances are formed in most parts of the country, leaders and analysts of political parties said.
Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has taken initiative to connect the completed private sector hydropower projects to the national transmission line as soon as possible. The work of transmission line under construction will be completed immediately to prevent wastage of electricity generated by private sector hydropower projects due to lack of transmission line, said NEA. After it became public that the projects completed in Lamjung could not be connected due to lack of transmission line, the top management of NEA visited under construction hydropower projects in the Dordi and Ngadi rivers and inspected the transmission line under construction to get information about the construction progress.
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has issued treasury bills worth Rs. 18.60 billion on Monday. Monetary Management Department under the central bank has issued the 28-day and 91-day treasury bills in order to raise internal debt on behalf of the government.
Finance Secretary Madhu Kumar Marasini expressed dissatisfaction over private sector's warning at times to shut down the industries and businesses, and hand over the keys to the government. "When there is a small challenge, private sector entrepreneurs announce to shut down their industrial establishments and businesses, this will not help. Government is not there to manage their business," he said while speaking at a programme organised by Management Association of Nepal (MAN) to offer suggestions for the budget of the next fiscal year 2022/23.
Vice President (VP) Nanda Bahadur Pun has said that the first airplane to fly in the sky of Nepal was built two years before the Wright brothers, Orville Wright and Wilbur Wright, invented the first airplane. Speaking at the inauguration programme of science exhibition organised by Aviation Museum in Sinamangal, Kathmandu on Monday, VP Pun said that he studied the successful history of airplane flying for the first time in Nepal but because of a lack of acknowledgment and encouragement, Nepal is not recognised as the first country to fly an airplane.
A few historic temples of the World Heritage Sites in the Kathmandu Valley are still standing with the support of wooden poles, even seven years after the massive 2015 earthquake left them cracked. The temples have been awaiting renovation ever since. Kumari Ghar, Shiva Parvati Temple and Mahadev Temple, which were constructed by using stone beside the Dasavatar Temple in Hanumandhoka Durbar Square, the buildings of Mahendra Sanskrit University and Aagam Chhe are still standing with the support of multiple wooden poles.
