Gandaki Province government has allocated Rs 34.6 million budget for the ninth National Games scheduled to be held in Gandaki Province from October 14-20.

Promote Public Toilets Nationwide
The history of public toilets in Nepal dates back to the period of King Pratap Malla when the first toilet was built at Hanumandhoka. After that, it took about 400 years for every household in Kathmandu to have a simple bathroom. From the beginning of civilisation, people started using a toilet to maintain health and hygiene, and protect themselves from various communicable diseases and foul smell. Toilets are regarded as the best tools in the public health management system.
42 buildings of health institutions constructed in five years
Altogether 42 buildings of health institutions have been constructed in four districts of the then Rapti zone in the last five years. These buildings were constructed under the integrated health infrastructure programme. After the construction of the buildings, it has been easier to provide efficient and quality health services to the public. The programme was implemented in Dang, Pyuthan, Rolpa and East Rukum districts from the fiscal year 2017/18.
Musahar family living in abject poverty
Musahar family living in Musahar Tole in Pachharwa, Shaheed Municipality-5, in Dhanusha, is facing a hard time due to abject poverty. Satrudhan Sada, 35, who is the head of the family, has failed to provide for his family because he is disabled by birth. Unable to build a house due to dire economic condition, the family has been living in a hut surrounded by plastics for the past seven years, locals said. “Living in a tent will be hard during the rainy season and cold waves. Rainwater leaks everywhere, and during winter, it’s unbearably cold,” Sada said.
Persistent drought leaves Terai farmers worried
A long period of drought has left farmers in Terai districts, including Sarlahi, worried about the bleak harvests. Due to the lack of irrigation, the rice plants have started drying up. As there is no rainfall, the farmers are irrigating their lands using diesel-powered pump sets, buying the fuel at a whopping cost. Rajendra Sah, a farmer of Chandranagar Rural Municipality-2, Babarganj, complained that he had to irrigate his paddy field by spending Rs. 173.50 per litre of diesel.
Tourists visiting Khumbu even in ‘off-season’
There has been an increase in the number of foreign tourists coming to the Everest region this ‘off-season.’ According to the office of the Sagarmatha National Park, more foreigners have come to the Khumbu area this year in the post-tourism month of August than previous years. Up until last year, the park would hardly see a couple of tourists a day this month. This year though, it has seeing around 14. Dwarika Achhami, chief of the Lukla office of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), informed that the increase in the number of visitors had boosted air travel too. “Three flights are taking place every day,” Achhami said. “More than two dozen helicopter flights also take place daily.”
Persistent garbage problem shameful, says Sharma
Nepali Congress general secretary Bishwo Prakash Sharma on Friday said that it was shame to be unable to collect the garbage piled up in Kathmandu even though three tiers of government are in the country. Unveiling a book Kamaredko Janai here, Sharma said that the streets of Kathmandu were full of garbage and it was a shame that the three tiers of governments have failed to manage it. He underlined the need for ending the shameful situation immediately.
