Unregulated urbanisation has become the newest emerging issue in major cities of Nepal. Despite being one of the least urbanised countries in the world, Nepal’s cities and towns are growing fast, but in an erratic manner. Fifty-five displaced families from the landslide-hit area of Sisuwakhola in Silichong Rural Municipality-1, in Sankhuwasabha, have received land plots in safer locations to construct their houses. Two years after being displaced by a landslide, the families have received free land plots in Khandbari Municipality-7. Out of the 92 displaced families, 55 have been brought to Khandbari Municipality, the district headquarters.
Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Pampha Bhusal has said that more opportunities should be found with collective efforts to raise investment for 'green energy'. She emphasised that the world should focus on the promotion of 'green energy' by promoting climate finance. "The world should focus on the promotion of clean energy. That requires a collective commitment to climate finance," Minister Bhusal said while virtually addressing a session on "Unlocking climate finance for green grid investment" of the forum on “Climate Initiatives to Finance Climate Action and the SDGs" meeting held on Thursday in Bangkok, Thailand for the preparation of COP-27.
Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Mayor Balendra Shah on Thursday continued demolition of illegally constructed structures of business complexes. On the third day of the demolition drive, Mayor Shah monitored dozer run over the illegal structure of Apha Beta complex in New Baneshwor. In the morning, Mayor Shah, KMC staffs, City and traffic police reached Alpha Beta for the inspection. After Mayor Shah and director of the complex Dwiraj Sharma had a heated argument over the blue print of the complex, Shah reached there for a second time with the dozer and blue print.
The fourth meeting of Energy Secretary Level Joint Steering Committee of Nepal and Bangladesh has been completed with notable achievements. The meeting of the committee was held in the Capital on Thursday between the Energy Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation (MoEWRI), Sushil Chandra Tiwari, and the Secretary of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MoEMR) of Bangladesh, Mohammad Habibur Rahman. The financial modality of 683 MW reservoir project, Sunkoshi III Hydroelectricity, which Bangladesh wants to invest in, was also on the agenda. But it has been agreed to finalize the modality in the next meeting after the review of the Detailed Feasibility Study (DFS).
Similarly, of the total 72 kilometers of outer ring road proposed in the valley through a budget for the fiscal year, 2061/62 BS, the detailed project proposal to construct 54.48 kilometers was prepared, said deputy development commissioner Nabaraj Pyakurel.

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Aug 24: With 444 new cases (RT-PCR and antigen combinedly) of COVID-19 confirmed on Thursday, while 307 have recovered from the novel coronavirus.In 1,996 Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) tests done in the past 24 hours, a total of 211 people were found infected with SARS-CoV-2, informed the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) in its regular update on Wednesday. Likewise, the virus infection was detected in 233 people in 2,958 antigen tests performed in the last 24 hours.Currently, there are 4,199 active cases of COVID-19 across the nation of which, 173 are admitted to institutional isolation while 4,026 patients are placed in home isolation. Out of which 50 are in ICU and two are on ventilator support. Three fatality related to COVID-19 was recorded in the last 24 hours, according to the MoHP. So far, Nepals' COVID-19 death toll has reached 11,998.

Kathmandu, Aug 25: The government has planned to construct three advanced terminal buildings in three domestic airports. According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), Biratnagar, Nepalgunj, and Bharatpur airports have been chosen for terminal construction within the current fiscal year. These airports remain the regional hub airports in the country. CAAN officiating deputy director and Spokesperson Jagannath Niraula, the CAAN issued a notice on Wednesday to select the contractors for the projects. According to Niraula, terminal buildings in the airport's data back to over 50 years. Likewise, the movement of passengers has increased. The projects will be implemented under the multi-year (three years) programme. The new structures will have a conveyor belt. According to CAAN, there are a total of 53 airports including three in the nation and of them, 33 are in operation while 20 are yet to be operated. Likewise, the number of blacktopped airports is 40. Three international airports: Tribhuvan International Airport and the Gautam Buddha Airport are operational and the Pokhara International Airport will come into operation from January 1, 2023. (RSS)
