Dhaulagiri Hospital, in Baglung district, has started to produce oxygen commercially. The high-capacity oxygen plant was set up during the time of COVID-19 crisis, and the capacities of the old ones have also been upgraded. Recently, the leftover oxygen was sold to a health institution for commercial use. The hospital, which once experienced debilitating crisis of oxygen, has now reached the point of exporting itself. It had been reeling from an acute oxygen shortage in the wake of second wave of the pandemic. The oxygen plant has been established at a cost of Rs. 30 million funded by the federal and Gandaki province governments. Tej Prasad Niure, administration branch officer of the hospital, informed that the new oxygen plant has been in operation for the past two months and is now producing regular medical oxygen.

Cold stores have been built to store potatoes in two villages in Dadeldhura district. But even a year after their construction completed, the stores have yet to come into operation. And this has worried the farmers. The construction of the building of a cold store located near the office of the Aalital Rural Municipality in Inner Madhesh was completed a year ago at a cost of Rs. 5 million. Information officer of the municipality Indra Bahadur Rawal said that he had no knowledge why they failed to come into operation. Chief administrative officer Narendra Singh Thagunna is even not aware that there are cold stores there. He said that he had no information about the cold stores.
Nepal Infrastructure Bank (NIFRA) and International Finance Corporation (IFC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the development of infrastructure projects in Public Private Partnership (PPP) modality in Nepal. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NIFRA Ram Krishna Khatiwada and Manager, Asia Pacific PPP Transaction Advisory Services of IFC Thomas Lubeck signed the MoU on behalf of their respective agencies at a programme, organised in NIFRA on Friday. As part of the MoU, NIFRA and IFC will collaborate on accelerating the pace of investment in infrastructure sector by bridging the gap in financial and technical resources required for the country’s infrastructure development, according to a press statement of NIFRA.
The local entrepreneurs, who run homestays at Dhunwakhola in Gulmi district, are helping promote tourism and providing job opportunities to the locals. Located in Kaligandaki Rural Municipality-7, the homestay started by the locals has now become one of the popular village tourism destinations. The homestay service has been in operation since 2019 in Dhunwakhola, which is mainly inhabited by Gurung community. There are a total of 76 housholds of Gurung community, 20 families of Chantyal and seven families of Pun Magar residing in the village. In the homestay, tourists can get a chance to live in people’s houses and share their meals and experience local life and culture. The place is full of scenic beauty and the Gurung settlement is the major attraction.
Experts have expressed their concerns over the impact of climate change on the agricultural sector in Karnali. Stating that Karnali is suffering from food security problem, they on Wednesday stressed the importance of commercial farming and said that agriculture sector is facing growing risk of disease outbreak due to changing climate. In a provincial level agricultural technical working group meeting, director of Surkhet Directorate of Agricultural Development Chitra Bahadur Rokaya said that due to the climate change, there had been a problem of orange seeds bursting in Dailekh, Jajarkot and Surkhet districts. Farmers in these places have faced problems during a pick season of plucking ripe fruits. Not only seed bursting, farmers have faced other problems like moths in maize and yams, stem dryness of rice plant, seed rotting of tomatoes, crops and fruits.
