Gongabu Bus Park area turns tense as transport workers protest fine on traffic rule violation

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Feb 13: Balaju and Gongabu bus park area turned tense today afternoon due to the scuffle between the demonstrating transport workers and the police.

Sita Ram Rijal, spokesperson of the Kathmandu Police Circle, said that the situation turned violent as the police tried to disperse the crowd that gathered even after successful dialogue with the transport entrepreneurs over the fines levied on violation of traffic rules.

"The transport workers were staging protest over the fines for violating traffic rule. There was dialogue, and they agreed to withdraw the protest. But, even after that they resumed their demonstration.

He said that the transport workers has been demanding that the microbus should as well be allowed to park inside the bus park area.

Meanwhile, three different organizations of the transport workers has issued statement and blamed that the workers were attacked by the people of the new bus part contract company.

They have also announced a closure of public services in the Kathmandu Valley for tomorrow as a protest against the attack over the workers by the Gongabu Bus Park contract company people.
