HoR to elect Deputy Speaker on April 10
The House of Representatives is set to elect a new Deputy Speaker on April 10, following a decision announced by Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal during Wednesday’s meeting. The election process, initiated under Rule 8(2) of the House of Representatives Rules, 2022, comes after the position remained vacant following the formation of the new government and the earlier election of the Speaker. Public transport fares go up
The government has increased public transport fares, with the new rates coming into effect from Wednesday. According to the Department of Transport Management, the adjustment has been made in line with the provision that mandates fare revisions when fuel prices fluctuate by Rs. 5 per litre. Passenger vehicle fares have risen by 16.71 per cent. Freight charges have also gone up, with a 21.68 per cent increase for goods transport vehicles operating on hilly routes and a 15.75 per cent rise for those plying on Tarai routes, the Department said.

Education Ministry directs to refund illegal school fees
The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has directed that fees collected illegally from students be refunded. Issuing a press statement on Wednesday, the ministry said it had received complaints that some private (institutional) schools are still charging fees in violation of the law. It has therefore instructed all concerned to return such unlawfully collected fees to students.

World Bank cuts this year’s growth projection to 2.3%
The World Bank has projected that Nepal's economic growth in the current Fiscal Year 2025/26 will drop down to 2.3 per cent from 4.6 per cent of the FY 2024/25. The impact of the ongoing conflict in West Asia and the lingering effects of the September 2025 unrest are the reasons behind this slowdown, according to the World Bank’s latest economic update. Looking ahead, reconstruction activities, continued hydropower expansion, and consumption linked to the 2027 subnational elections are expected to support a pickup in growth to an average of 4.4 per cent over the next two fiscal years, it said in its report published on Wednesday.
