Biratnagar, Jan 22: Chief Minister of Koshi Province, Hikmat Kumar Karki, said that the Armed Police Force (APF) has been playing a vital role in border security, disaster management and peace establishment.At a programme organized in Itahari of Sunsari district to mark the 24th establishment day of APF No 1 Brigade's main office today, CM Karki recognized the notable role of the APF in border security especially in those places not having border posts and buildings.CM Karki lauded, "The role played by the APF in border areas during COVID-19 pandemic and during disasters being in frontline is commendable." He also praised that the APF had, despite the limited resources at its disposal, been contributing in increasing revenue collection by deploying themselves in the border areas. According to him, the provincial government had constructed 52 border posts and reaffirmed his commitment to the APF for additional support in coming days."Nepal is located between two big countries. Since we share an open border with India, we should work in the best interest of our country through coordination and cooperation," the CM argued.Similarly, APF's Deputy Inspector General of Police, Shambhu Subedi mentioned that the APF reached here by serving people after surmounting various hurdles and difficulties.Similarly, Senior Superintendent of Police Manish Thapa had briefed about various works carried out by the APF and its ongoing undertakings. Kathmandu, Jan 22: The Armed Police Force (APF) Nepal has turned 24 years of its establishment. During the period, the armed police force has focused its performance in the areas of border security, domestic security, revenue, customs and industrial security and disaster risk reduction. The government has entrusted the APF with the responsibility for containing armed struggle, separatist activities and terrorist activities, enhancing border security, managing riot, carrying out disaster management, providing security of VIPs and establishments, revenue, customs and industrial security. The APF that has the presence in all districts across the country is trying to establish itself as a 'dedicated' border security force. The APF has been performing its duty through 254 border outposts in the border sharing with India and China. APF joint spokesperson Shailendra Thapa said 201 BOPs have been set up along the country's southern border, 22 in the east, 21 in the west and 10 in the north. The police force has been carrying out border security and development programmes in collaboration with the border security mechanisms of India and China to make border security effective. The APF which has supported the state in the prevention of smuggling and import has contributed Rs 1.05 billion in revenue collection in the six months of the current fiscal year as compared to Rs 1.64 billion in the last fiscal year, said joint spokesperson Thapa.
