Damauli (Tanahu), May 12: The Byas Municipality in Tanahu district has provided financial assistance worth Rs 3 million and 928 thousand to patients suffering from various chronic illnesses in the ongoing fiscal year.
The Municipality doled out monetary support to altogether 266 patients during the current fiscal year 2082/83 BS, offering Rs 5,000 per month to each beneficiary.
According to Sukdev Lamsal, Chief Administrative Officer, the financial assistance has been directly deposited in the respective beneficiary's account.
Lamsal shared that the Municipality launched the initiative to support chronic disease patients who require regular medical treatment for chronic diseases and are facing financial hardships.
The Municipality has been implementing the initiative targeting patients suffering from cancer, kidney diseases, heart diseases and paralysis.
Lamsal noted that patients with such illnesses often have to bear heavy expenses for medicines, medical tests and frequent hospital visits which, he added, prompted the local government to introduce this initiative.
Furthermore, the Municipality also has been running various health-related programmes with a focus on social security and public health, he added.
Mayor Baikuntha Neupane mentioned that efforts were underway to improve public health through various initiatives such as providing financial support for chronic patients, setting up health camps, providing free medical check-ups and launching awareness programmes.
Local residents acknowledged these initiatives as positive and exemplary. They view that the monetary support has brought some respite to the patients grappling with financial hardships to continue treatment.
Residents particularly noted that the assistance has been effective for those who require regular medication and frequent hospital visits.
Mayor Neupane pledged to make health and social security programmes more effective in coming years. (RSS)
