Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development and Forest and Environment, Gita Chaudhary

Kathmandu, May 1: Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Geeta Chaudhary has released Guidelines on determination of minimum Support price and minimum purchase price, 2082.

According to the Guidelines, farmers will now get information about the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of major crops even before they start sowing the crops.

The Ministry of Agriculture has made arrangements to fix the minimum support price for crops including paddy, maize, wheat and millet. In the case of sugarcane, a field survey and data collection will be done and an analysis report will be prepared, before a final recommendation is made.

Similarly, for wheat a survey, technical recommendation and final recommendation will be made to determine the MSP.

Minister Chaudhary has said that this arrangement is expected to make it easier for farmers to select crops, help in making production plans and reduce market risk. In addition, investment and production in the agricultural sector will increase as farmers will get assurance of a fair price.

The guideline has been issued by the Ministry of Agriculture as per Section 47 (1) of the Right to Food and Food Sovereignty Act, 2075 BS. (RSS)
