Daya Shankar Palikhe Journalism Award to Basnet and Baral

Gandaki, April 28: Senior editor of Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), Surya Chandra Basnet, is to be honored with the 'Democratic Fighter Dayashankar Palikhe Journalism Award', which carries a cash prize of Rs 101,111 along with a letter of appreciation.     

Alongside Basnet, BBC Nepali Service journalist Krishnamani Baral has also been selected for the award, which was established in memory of Daya Shankar Palikhe.     

Basnet will receive the award for the year 2081 BS, while Baral has been chosen for the year 2082 BS. The award selection committee had earlier recommended both Basnet and Baral, and the decision was later endorsed on Monday by a meeting of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), Kaski.     

The award, established by the Palikhe family, has been institutionalized by FNJ Kaski.     

According to FNJ Kaski Secretary Bhupal Gurung, the awards will be presented on May 5, marking the memorial day of Palikhe.     

Basnet, originally from Damauli of Byas Municipality-2 in Tanahu, has been active in Nepali journalism for the past 30 years. Before joining RSS in 2056 BS, he worked for various newspapers, including Rastrapukar Weekly, Himalaya Times, Nepal Samacharpatra, and Adarsha Samaj Daily.     

Likewise, Baral, from Nuwarthok of Pokhara Metropolitan City-7, has been involved in journalism since 2055 BS. He has also worked with Annapurna Post Daily, enaturenews.com, Himalaya Times, Samadhan Daily, Deshantar Weekly, and Nepali Times.     

According to FNJ Kaski, both journalists are being honored in recognition of their contributions to society, the nation, and democracy through journalism.(RSS)
