Kathmandu, March 25: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has called for the continuation of the benchmark set by the Election Commission during the March 5 election to the House of Representatives in future elections.

Addressing a reception organized by the Election Commission at Bahadur Bhawan, Kathmandu today, PM Karki noted that the recent election was conducted peacefully across the country without the need for re-election at any polling centre.

Karki underscored that this benchmark should be preserved and continued in upcoming elections.

"The recently held election has enhanced Nepal's image at the international level and increased respect towards the country. It has also safeguarded the constitutional system and democratic values while also contributing to promotion of democracy," the PM asserted.

Recalling the situation when she assumed office towards the mid-September, 2025, she mentioned that the country was facing legal and political vacuity along with security sensitivities at that time.

PM Karki viewed that the successful conduct of the election under such circumstances had helped bring democratic values back on track.

"Although the election initially appeared challenging, it became possible due to the determination of the (Election) Commission and the support of the government," articulated the Head of the Government.

According to her, around one million young voters registered themselves and enthusiastically participated in the election following the issuance of ordinance after the election announcement.

On the occasion, PM Karki expressed her gratitude to the Commission, a constitutional body mandated to conduct and monitor election, for successfully holding the election in a free, fair, impartial and fear-free environment. (RSS)
