By TRN Online, Kathmandu, March 25: Police have arrested 20 foreign women in Thamel, a main tourist area in Kathmandu, on charges of engaging in indecent behavior and unethical activities.
According to police, the arrests were made following
complaints that the women were pressuring both domestic and foreign tourists in
public places by bargaining for money and soliciting involvement in sexual
activities, causing harassment and disturbance to the locals.
Police spokesperson Pawan Kumar Bhattarai said a team
deployed from the Kathmandu District Police Office and the Lainchaur Police
Circle carried out surveillance and inspections at various locations in Thamel.
The women were apprehended at different times in different locations, including a public road at Fire Chowk in Kathmandu
Metropolitan City-26.
All those arrested are nationals of Uganda, police
confirmed.
Authorities said that the women were allegedly obstructing
passersby, including male tourists and locals, and engaging in inappropriate
negotiations and indecent conduct.
A case has been filed against all 20 individuals under
charges of “indecent behavior.”
Police have obtained a 12-day remand extension from the Kathmandu District Administration Office and are continuing further investigation through the Lainchaur Police Circle.
